Farewell

This is a post of mourning. I remember reading the Rocky as a child, a teenager, and as a responsible adult I have taken it, relishing reading it in the morning or evening after scooping it up from my driveway. I will miss it. Farewell to the best regional newspaper. It should have been the Post.

Yep, it is sad. We used to pick up the Rocky at Latta's Drug now Soda Fountain after church when I was little, your Grandma Pat loved a big Sunday paper. Then a trial was delivered to my dorm at Laramie and I was hooked. I got delivery in Cheyenne and picked it up daily at the Soda Fountain or Hortons when we moved back to ranch, until they finally stopped sending it north of Cheyenne a few years ago. You young whippersnappers and your dangnab internet!!!

And another news icon passes as well. Paul Harvey started broadcasting the year I was born and while your grandparents and great-grandparents were very faithful listeners, I grew up listening to Paul Harvey and even heard him in the last 30 days tho' he did not do "his" news very often the last few years. His unique style was news, a comment wrapped in common sense and brevity in writing. He coined skyjacker, Reagonomics, and for you Mrs. Cool the word phrase "infanticipating" which says so much more than "pregnant".

Ah, yes, I remember listening to Paul Harvey. I especially remember that one story he told around Christmas, about the guy trying to feed the birds.

Good day! Paul Harvey, Good day!
