Why isn't Tybalt in more scenes?

Right now, in my Cool classroom, it is all Romeo and Juliet, all the time. I'm trying to restrain myself from writing thousands of R&J posts, but I thought this one might be okay.

We just finished reading Act 1, so we're watching film clips from a few different versions to compare. Of course, we always watch part of the Zefferelli classic, which I mainly enjoy because Michael York plays Tybalt. You might know him as Basil Exposition in the Austin Powers movies, but as a young Shakespearean actor, he was incredibly dishy. Even some of my 9th grade girls usually find him good-looking. I find him just plain ol' yummy, which helps me get through my 4,000th watching of this film. If only he didn't peg out in Act 3.

The very butcher of a silk button - 'tis a shame he dies.

I taught Romeo & Juliet 24 times in the last nine years, and I do miss it.

I know when I'm not needed... forget Valentines day, you can go to Wendy's with a picture of Tybalt! Umph...

Seriously though, we're on for Wendy's, but we'll talk about Mr. York.

I subbed during a R & J run last winter. Tybalt is handsome.

The kids in the first class were so pleased when I accidentally failed to fast forward the bedroom scene, then accidentally rewound past it again. The next day, the new class was mad that I got it right because the heard the other guys got to watch it twice . . .

Hannah--that is hysterical. I usually just hold up a piece of posterboard over the TV at that scene, but I've missed it before as well.

Whenever I've shown that scene, the guys think it's going to be great (they've heard from older kids that there are boobies), but it turns out to be about 5 minutes of Romeo's backside and 3 frames (which is one-tenth of a second) of Olivia Hussey's bosoms.

Young men's love then lies/not truly in their hearts but in their ... eyes.

Ha! I just read that line of the Friar's. My boys actually like the balcony scene better for bosom-viewing.
