Cutie Pie Thursday: I Had a Great Idea, or Getting Old

This is an old picture of the wee lad at Auntie Cool's birthday, partaking in his first dirt cup.  Last night, I had a really great idea for a blog post and an activity.  Lincoln will have so much fun, I thought!  He will learn!  It will be great fodder for pictures and a blog!

I can't remember it.  I can't even remember what led to the idea.  Nothing is coming to mind.  I am getting old.

12/12 in 2012: The March Shawl Must Be Green!

In thanks/reward for designing my hat, I received five glorious hanks of Manos del Uruguay Clasica in the colorway Forest Floor. I gave two away, but saved three for myself.

I knit Stephen West's Colonnade, a beautiful and fun knit on size 10 needles. I cast on on Monday, and finished it on Friday--just barely getting it done in March!

I love the columnar lace in the Forest Floor color--it makes me think of "A Midsummer Night's Dream," with the juxtaposition of Ancient Greece and the wilds of the forest.

This shawl has a very unique construction, which helps it sit firmly on the shoulders. In a 100% wool yarn, I will definitely be reaching for this all winter.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! (I'm Just One Day Late!)

Thanks to cell phones, an iffy picture of Lincoln enjoying our green shamrock pancakes yesterday. He really enjoyed them, and knew they were shamrocks without me telling him! We also enjoyed the Veggie Tales St. Patrick's Day story (on the Sumo of the Opera DVD), and reading some Jamie O'Rourke stories by Tomie dePaola (thanks Grammie Cool!) Every year, holidays become more and more fun!

The Hat of my Dreams

For anyone out there with curly hair, you know that wearing hats in winter can be tricky. Most beanies, as soon as I decide to wear them, I am choosing to have flat hair for the rest of the day. I really wanted to wear a hat, and this week, I decided to try a slouchy hat.

Voila! It looks cute, I think, and my hair was still fairly fluffy and curly even after wearing it for most of Saturday. I knit the Molly hat in my beloved Fair Trade Manos del Uruguay Maxima in the Mixed Berries colorway. I adore this hat--I want to wear it all the time, and knit a dozen more slouchy hats/berets/tams.

I haven't taken any pictures of Lincoln in February 2012 yet. I put new batteries in my camera, but I just haven't taken any photos, partially because we've been sick, or out and about, or cold. I leave you with a few classics from years past. I can't believe in a little over 3 months I'll have a three-year-old.

Artsy Cowl Shot?

I need to do a couple things when it comes to photographing my knitwear--have Mark take some pictures of me, for once, and replace the batteries in my camera. I'm currently getting one shot every time I quickly move the batteries around and turn the camera on. It leads to shots like this one. Which I like, a bit, and which shows off the lovely quick cowl I made out of some Araucania Coliumo Multy gifted to me by one of my knitting buds. It is a fantastic wool/silk chunky yarn, and I decided to make a simple cowl out of it. I've been wearing it a lot, and usually my head isn't blurry.

Where did Cutie Pie go? Mama was busy.

A new yarn store may have opened nearby. I may have met my knitting group there. I may have been there for over 90 minutes. It may be an insanely awesome place. I may have been on their webcam fondling yarn. I may have forgotten all about Cutie Pie Thursday. Sorry.

Cutie Pie Sunday: Third (!) Thanksgiving

Hmm, tomorrow seems to have a had a fluid meaning for me this week! Anyway, here are some images from our lovely Thanksgiving, a beautiful day that involved a walk to the park! Blogger has scrambled the images a bit, and I'm in no particular need to order them, so there you go.

Buzz Lightyear, space ranger, visits the first Thanksgiving. Lincoln asked for forks for his pilgrims and indians, as they were eating food.

A Trip to Taos: Fall Color Explosion

I hope everyone gets a chance to see some gorgeous fall leaves this year--I'm not very good at photographing the beauty we saw. My favorites are a flash of golden leaves trapped in a green conifer zone.

A Trip to Taos: Taos Cow Blows Our Minds

When looking for recommendations on Taos, Taos Cow kept coming up. It's actually in Arroyo Seco, about 20 minutes from Taos, but if you are in the region--go. Just go.

Lincoln loved all the cows, and as soon as we walked in and he spotted the ice cream, he wanted ice cream. We told him he had to eat something else first and led by example.

Mr. Cool had "the best roast beef sandwich I've ever had" with insanely good Thai coleslaw,
while I had Thai coconut curry soup, loaded with yummy veggies and intense flavor, and accompanied by awesome rye toast.

We asked Lincoln if he wanted raspberry or strawberry, and he answered, "Chocolate." So that's what he got. It was yummy--almonds, cinnamon, fudgyness.

He also deigned to try some raspberry--the best fruity ice cream we've ever had, and the lavender which seriously blew our minds. Definitely worth the trip!

Awkward Photos of Knitting, or Finished Objects Galore

I really should work on getting help with my finished object pictures. Even with my great tripod, I'm not so skilled at taking pictures of myself. I tend to really go all-out crazy eyes.

A great winter headband in Malabrigo Chunky (Dusty Olive colorway)--pattern is Blue Leaf Headband. I really look forward to wearing this, but despite its camo-like appearance, hopefully not in a remake of Platoon, although my eyes might disagree.

This is supposed to be a picture of my gorgeous Candle Flame Cowl knit in ridiculously smooshy Elsa Wool Cormo, but all I can see are my nostrils. You too, huh? That, or the earrings that are too long to wear with this cowl. Nope, mostly the nostrils.

I'm trying to show off my mitts and scarf/shawlette (Sock Yarn Mini Warms and Yvaine, respectively) knit in seductive Leo MCS (Merino/Cashmere/Silk) that are from my first ever Shakespeare Yarn Club, dyed by Amy Lee, but mostly I look like some yarn-clad pirate, or something. My arms are right in a yo-ho-ho move.

This one, oof. My second attempt to photograph my Figurehead Shawl in Spud and Chloe Sweater, and my eyes go so crazy one blinds the camera. And the shawl totally clashes with that shirt.

I hope I can get better at this!
